SUBJECTS:
Math
We are working on place value and repreasenting numbers.
ELA
In writers' workshop the students are publishing their first piece of writing which is an introduction of themselves to myself and their peers.
In Readers' Workshop we will be getting into reading circle groups this week and working together on reading strategies, we have talked about the following the strategies; 1) sound it out
2) stretch it out
3) chunk it!
Encourage your child to try these strategies when reading at home too!
Spelling- spelling lists go home on Monday and tests are on the following Monday. Please help your child to do some studying at home. The lists are on the following website with games to play for practice.

Social Studies
We are learning about the geography of Canada and locating various places and bodies of water on a map. Use the link below to check out a great resource.
This week students were matching provinces and territories with the correct captial cities. There will be a quiz on this coming up very soon!!! Help them practice at home! Also this week the students in grade 3/4 started working on their province/territory research project. They have done all the research and are now ready to put it into presentation form. We will be using flickr on the computer to create magazine covers. The students are excited to get to the publishing stage of this project.

We still need a few shoe boxes for our first class project, if you have any extra's please send them to school with your child. Thanks so much!
We now have enough shoeboxes.....thanks to everyone who sent extras! The students have made a plan for their habitat dioramas and now need to collect materials for the building process. Please send any materials you may have "kicking" around at home. Ie) toilet paper tubes, paper towel tubes, small branches or leaves, tissue paper...etc.) Thanks for helping us out!
